I am always straightening my diamond ring out and see no harm. The other day my husbands grand mom kept touching my diamond and picking at it, talking about how different it looked. (She is 90, haha) Then she did the same to my sister in law and she was like, "Don't touch my diamond!"
I always thought diamonds were only destructible at the hands of other diamonds... or extreme measures.|||Touching your diamond will do nothing but get it dirty. It is impossible for you to cratch it, even if you "pick at it" with your fingernails. It probably just needs cleaned.|||my birthday is nov. 8th! yay for your daughter!
i don't think it's bad for it but it will loosen it's setting on your ring which may cause it to fall out.|||your diamonds will be fine.|||Yes, you are right. Diamonds are very hard stones and can only be scratched by another diamond. Your sister-in-law doesn't want anyone touching her diamond because it'll make it dirty. Fingers have oils on them and it will get on the diamond masking the sparkle/brilliance. But of course, the diamond can be easily washed with mild soap and water. So in answer to your question, no, it's not bad to touch a diamond with your bare hands.|||NO! NOT AT ALL!
It may be that she believes that her Diamond "Is Cleansed", that is to say that it has "Powers" and that other people touching it will "Taint" those Powers.
THIS KIND OF THINK IS NOT AT ALL UNCOMMON, THESE DAYS, ESPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN "HEALING WITH GEMSTONES AND CRYSTALS" AND SUCH.
'
I AM ONLY GUESSING, but I doubt that she would get so upset even if she thought your hands were dirty, UNLESS IT WAS THE HEATING THING.
IF YOU WISH TO TAKE A PEAK AT THE CONCEPT, I have provided a LINK, below.|||Diamonds are actually attracted to grease; it is one of the ways that they are sorted from the rough stones when they are mined (everything is run over a grease belt, the diamonds stick and the dirt and rocks run off). Touching them gets them very dirty and dulls their sparkle.
The best way to clean them is by using ammonia. If you don't have that around, you can use windex, hot water and a soft toothbrush to loosen whatever may be trapped in the setting.
